Frequently asked questions for retailers

How often is the amount from the municipal pot updated?

The display of the community pot depends on the payment cycle to the retailers. At the moment we do the settlement every Tuesday and the payment to the retailers takes place on Wednesday. The amount in the community pot is then also updated on this day. The aim is to offer different payment cycles (daily, weekly, monthly) by the end of the year, so that the community pots are updated more frequently.

Where can I find the general terms and conditions for retailers?

The general terms and conditions for retailers can be found under this link. If you have any questions about the terms and conditions, please contact us via the contact form.

Where can I see an overview of my income?

We are currently in the beta phase. Therefore, not all planned functionalities have been fully developed yet. You will probably be able to view your earnings in the merchant portal from September 2025. There we will also list the transaction fees and you can compile your reports for accounting purposes.

Can I also use VERD.cash abroad?

Unfortunately, no. In the first step, we are focusing on offering VERD.cash to customers plus companies based in Switzerland.

When will VERD.cash be available in my region?

We are currently conducting a beta test in Riggisberg and the surrounding area. This is scheduled to run until the end of August. However, if we see that everything works perfectly and we can expand our offering more quickly, we will roll out VERD.cash in other parts of Switzerland as early as the beginning of fall.

Our tip: To be informed immediately when VERD.cash goes live in your region, simply subscribe to our newsletter.

Why is VERD.cash not a mobile app for download?

The mobile app is still to come. It is currently important to us that we bring VERD.cash to market quickly and cleanly. That's why, in the current beta test phase, we are only offering a web app that works equally well on mobile devices and desktops.

However, we are already working on the VERD.cash mobile app. It will be available for iPhone and Android and is planned for release in September.

If you are interested in such milestones, you can find more details in the roadmap on the private customer subpage.

Do I have to do anything for the EFT/POS device to be activated?

No, we take care of the whole process for you. All you have to do is send us the 8-digit terminal ID number and the name of your provider and VERD.cash will be activated on your device for you. This happens via the automatic restart that your EFT/POS device performs every week.

If the waiting time until the next restart is too long for you, you can also restart the device manually.

How long does it take for my EFT/POS device to be activated?

Once you have successfully sent us all the business information via the form, we will send you the digital contract to your e-mail address within 24 hours. As soon as you sign this contract (also digitally) and send it back to us, experience has shown that it takes 3 to 5 weekdays to activate VERD.cash on your devices.

How can I pay with the VERD.cash card?

With the VERD.cash card, you pay just like with any regular debit card: contactless via NFC chip or magnetic stripe.

When we offer VERD.cash throughout Switzerland (expected from fall 2025), you will be able to secure your card with a PIN of your choice. And you will be able to set your own personal spending limits.

On which EFT/POS devices does VERD.cash run?

VERD.cash can be read on all EFT/POS devices that have the ep2 standard. (That's over 95% of Swiss terminals.)

The most common device providers include Worldline SA, Nexi Schweiz AG, PayTec AG and Wallee. If you want to learn more about ep2 and the supported brands and devices, just click here.

How does VERD.cash work?

VERD.cash is an alternative payment solution that currently works via cards and will also include other channels in the future - such as direct payments via app.

Retailers have to pay a fee for every card payment, known as a transaction fee. Depending on the contract, this can amount to more than 2% of the amount paid. With VERD.cash, this fee is reduced to just 0.6%. And this is the same for all merchants, whether large or small.

50 % of the fee income goes to the Swiss national fund and 50 % to the municipal fund of your municipality. Projects for the community can then be financed from these pots. The VERD cooperative members decide democratically which projects are entered and financed.
