Frequently asked questions for VERD.cash card users
The display of the community pot depends on the payment cycle to the retailers. At the moment we do the settlement every Tuesday and the payment to the retailers takes place on Wednesday. The amount in the community pot is then also updated on this day. The aim is to offer different payment cycles (daily, weekly, monthly) by the end of the year, so that the community pots are updated more frequently.
Due to compliance requirements, we must ensure that a person only activates one VERD.cash card. You may not activate multiple cards for the same person. Even if you live in the same household, each person must create their own card and account with VERD.cash. This means that when the card is activated, the system checks whether there is already an account under the respective telephone number and e-mail address and if this is the case, you will be forwarded to the account already created and cannot activate another card. Thank you for your understanding.
The General Terms and Conditions for customers of VERD.cash can be found under this link. You should also be able to find it in the footer. If you still have questions, you can contact us via the contact form.
There are several ways to activate your card. You can either scan the QR code on the back of your card and follow the steps to link your card to you. You can also start the activation process via the VERD.cash website using the "Login" button at the top right of the header by clicking "Register" on the new page. And as a third starting point, there is a tile at the bottom of the homepage with "Activate card". The advantage of scanning the QR code on the back of the card is that you don't have to type in the card number yourself, but it will be added automatically, so you only have to confirm it.
If you lose your VERD.cash card, you can block it in the WebApp. To do this, go to the card details and tap on "Block card".
If this doesn't work, you can send us an email to fairpay@verd.cash at any time. Include your card number and we will be happy to block your card for you.
If you want to unblock your card again, you can do so via the WebApp. The system will then automatically send you a confirmation email including your card number. We are currently still unblocking the card manually. However, this will also work fully automatically in the future.
Unfortunately, no. In the first step, we are focusing on offering VERD.cash to customers plus companies based in Switzerland.
We are currently conducting a beta test in Riggisberg and the surrounding area. This is scheduled to run until the end of August. However, if we see that everything works perfectly and we can expand our offering more quickly, we will roll out VERD.cash in other parts of Switzerland as early as the beginning of fall.
Our tip: To be informed immediately when VERD.cash goes live in your region, simply subscribe to our newsletter.
The mobile app is still to come. It is currently important to us that we bring VERD.cash to market quickly and cleanly. That's why, in the current beta test phase, we are only offering a web app that works equally well on mobile devices and desktops.
However, we are already working on the VERD.cash mobile app. It will be available for iPhone and Android and is planned for release in September.
If you are interested in such milestones, you can find more details in the roadmap on the private customer subpage.
Because this is the only way we can keep the fees low for you. If you were to load your VERD.cash account with TWINT or a credit card, we would have to pay these companies high transaction fees. This would only be acceptable if we passed these fees on to you. But we don't want to do that.
Billing example: You charge 100 francs from your credit card to your VERD.cash account. We would have to pay up to 2 francs for this service. So you would only have a credit balance of 98 francs. We think that's no fun.
That's why we've decided to only accept bank deposits for the time being. Next year, however, we will also be offering a direct account connection. From then on, you can decide for yourself whether you want to stick with the prepaid model or link your VERD.cash account to your bank account.
Would you like to know how much money is currently on your VERD.cash card? There are several ways to do this.
The easiest way is to scan the QR code on the back of the card with your cell phone camera.
You can also use your preferred device (mobile or desktop) to surf to www.verd.cash. At the top right of the menu bar you will find the "Login" button. You can of course also save this URL as a bookmark so that you can access it more quickly.
With the VERD.cash card, you pay just like with any regular debit card: contactless via NFC chip or magnetic stripe.
When we offer VERD.cash throughout Switzerland (expected from fall 2025), you will be able to secure your card with a PIN of your choice. And you will be able to set your own personal spending limits.
You will probably be able to secure your VERD.cash card with a PIN of your choice from fall 2025. We will also offer you other security features, such as a maximum daily spending limit that you can set yourself.
So that we can make it as easy as possible for you to become part of VERD.cash. You can currently have a maximum of CHF 3,000 available in your VERD.cash account. You can also spend a maximum of CHF 5,000 per month and CHF 25,000 per year with the VERD.cash card. If we were to increase these limits, you would have to disclose a lot more information about yourself when you register. This is what the Swiss banking supervisory authority FINMA wants.
We are still in the beta phase and are testing all functionalities in the municipality of Riggisberg in Bern and the surrounding area. As soon as we have gone live throughout Switzerland, you will be able to use VERD.cash at all participating stores. In future, you will find the complete list of all connected stores that offer VERD.cash as a means of payment here.
VERD.cash is an alternative payment solution that currently works via cards and will also include other channels in the future - such as direct payments via app.
Retailers have to pay a fee for every card payment, known as a transaction fee. Depending on the contract, this can amount to more than 2% of the amount paid. With VERD.cash, this fee is reduced to just 0.6%. And this is the same for all merchants, whether large or small.
50 % of the fee income goes to the Swiss national fund and 50 % to the municipal fund of your municipality. Projects for the community can then be financed from these pots. The VERD cooperative members decide democratically which projects are entered and financed.
